What is STEM?

Alison Coombridge —

Stem is the acronym for the building of connections between Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM is about students problem-solving in a real context.

STEM education seeks to teach students to be creative, innovative, critical thinkers, all skills needed to adapt to our rapidly changing world. It engages students in project based learning where they are often given real world engineering challenges.  Teams of students work together to seek multiple solutions to these challenges. Science, engineering, technology and maths are part of nearly every aspect of modern life, and they also hold the key to meeting many of humanities most pressing current and future problems.

During Maths week 14-18 August (next week) the Think Tank Pod is launching  STEM across our classes with the aim (over time) to integrate this as part of  our class programme.

Thank you to parents who have supported our request for grocery boxes, material and cardboard to be used for the construction of our design prototypes.

Watch this space for a future look at what is happening  during our investigative STEM projects.
