Team Explorer Ice Skating Success!

Nikki Geddis —

There was a lot of anticipation about our postponement date, the weather forecast didn't look great but we went and it was a fantastic day!

We had a great drive to Tekapo on the buses. Lots of excitement as we got closer to the snow and the mountains. It was a mammoth effort once we were off the buses to get ice skates on everyone but thank you so much to the parent helpers for helping to get all the students ready to get on the ice. Thanks for all the great work our parent helpers did throughout the day ensuring our kids had skates, were warm and reminding them to eat!

The Team Explorer teachers were so proud to see our students all showing so much resilience and perseverance during our day at Tekapo Springs. There were tumbles and falls but everyone got back up and tried again. We saw the Bluestone Values in action throughout the day. It was great seeing all the aroha and kindness shown as students helped each other get on and off the ice, helped students up who had fallen and helped find metal frames or penguins to push.

What a wonderful day we all had. Thanks again to our parent helpers, our emergency vehicle volunteers, the super students and our amazing teachers who organised such a great trip.

Jacoby: I liked going on the bus and skating with my friends.

Fletcher: It was fun skating with my friends and my mum.

Bentley: It was fun falling over and learning how to skate.

Angela: At ice skating I had so much fun learning how to skate and it was my first time skating and I didn't need a penguin holder.

Iris: I liked that I learned how to ice skate and I liked that when I fell over that I didn't give up.

Hasan: I kept trying even if I fell over while I was learning how to skate.
