Letterland

Carmen Brown —

Has your child been talking about Bouncy Ben, Clever Cat or Sammy Snake? Chances are they are talking about Letterland!

Letterland is a unique, phonics-based approach to learning the alphabet and is used across all areas of literacy in the junior classes.   The Letterland characters transform plain black letter shapes into child-friendly characters and they all live in an imaginary place called Letterland.

Using a multi sensory approach,  the children  from rooms 3,4, and 5 are highly motivated to learn about each character.  Two characters visit our classroom each week and we immerse ourselves  into Letterland through literacy, music, art and  in fact most  curriculum areas . These stories explain letter sounds & combinations of sounds,  allowing  the children to progress quickly to word building, reading and writing.  It is amazing how fast the children's alphabet knowledge develops and their ability to use this to help them read and write.

There is a lot of information on the internet and many of the songs are  already on YouTube if you would like to look into it further.  Alternatively Mrs Jackson, Miss Waud or myself are happy to give you a demonstration.
