Seeds for Writing
Room 15 have been writing up a storm over the past few weeks, writing snapshots of their everyday lives.
From Summer memories to peeling an orange to the view from our street, we have been using everyday activities as 'seeds' for writing. With everyone having an idea, all of us can get some words on a page, which we can then grow our writing from. We have been looking at how we use verbs (action) words and precise nouns (names of objects) to quickly improve our sentences.
This is Harlow's quick write (15 minutes free writing - little editing) on peeling an orange:
An orange is held in both hands as a small rough knife slices down the very centre so delicately from top to bottom, the tiniest bit of orange pops and trickles down my fingers. I finish slicing down the centre, I dig my nails into the slice and detach the skin from the orange. Slowly I peel the skin back, leaving a satisfying sound. I keep pulling until there's no more skin around the orange. Now all that is left is tiny streaks of white drooling down the orange. Fingers slowly remove them, leaving silky bits of the orange by themselves. I then tear the orange into pieces of 6 leaving a juicy complexion.
