Police Challenge 2024

Georgia Jackson —

Recently four of our year 8 students took part in the Police PCT (police competency test).

Every year schools around South Canterbury have the chance to compete in the Police Challenge. PCT is a Physical Competency Test. This is a very competitive event with around 18 teams entering. Teams are made up of 4 students, 2 girls, 2 boys, that complete the same course that sworn police officers do for their fitness testing every two years. Teamwork, speed, strength, agility, balance, fitness are just some of the skills needed to post a competitive time. Some of the course involves teams having to climb walls, jump through windows, carry a 90kg dummy, running, crawling under obstacles, pushing a trailer and many more. Teamwork is essential as all members of the team must complete the course and the clock stops when the last person is over the finish line. As well as participating in the PCT challenge this year the students had the opportunity to try on Police uniforms, use hand cuffs, look in an undercover police car. A highlight for some of the students was being having their running speed tested out with a police radar. Haibin was the second faster runner of the day.

All members of the team can be extremely proud of their performance as they gave it everything out on the course and posted a very fast time of

Well done to Macey Tarrant, Haibin Chen, Hadlee Shepherd and Amani Malama you all put in your best efforts and should be proud of the way you represented Bluestone.
