A-maze-ing!

Nikki Geddis —

Room 9 have put in a lot of time and effort to create some amazing Bee-bot mazes.

This term our focus has been on STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). On Fridays Team Explorer students have been able to have a go at lots of different STEM tasks on offer. Our class STEM project has been to create bee-bot mazes. We are very lucky to now have bee-bots for use in the junior school (Year 1-4). These bee-bots are small programmable robots. We decided to create some mazes for the bee-bots to help the junior school students learn about programming.

First we individually designed our own bee-bot maze and then we shared our ideas in our groups and  created a plan on A3 paper. We used our plans to help design our large maze.

We incorporated our knowledge of 3D to shapes to help us plan buildings, scenery and other items for our boards.

We tested our mazes with the bee-bots and had to make some adjustments. We will share our mazes with the Creative Creatures and Te Tahi too.

Here's what we enjoyed about this our STEM project:

Sahaj: Making the traffic lights out of boxes

Brianna: Making paper houses and painting

Wilson: That we all helped each other

Ruby N: We got to decorate it the way we wanted
