Pirate Adventure: From History to Art

Phillip Barnett —

Room 21 has been diving into the world of pirates through the fascinating article The Truth About Pirates. This reading sparked lively discussions about both real and fictional pirates, their daring adventures, and the impressive ships they sailed across the high seas.

Inspired by the article, students embarked on an exciting art project to create their own pirate ship illustrations. They began by exploring different ship designs, selecting one that captured their imagination. Using careful observation and sketching techniques, they outlined their chosen ships on paper.

Next came the inking process—a step that required patience and precision. Students used Indian Ink and skewers to trace over their sketches, adding bold outlines that made their ships stand out with striking detail.

Finally, they brought their ships to life with watercolours, carefully choosing colours to enhance their designs. The finished artwork showcased their creativity and attention to detail.
