Sharlene Heaphy —

Room 1 has been very busy over the last week and continuing this week, learning about Matariki : our Māori New Year.

"I liked making the stars and the lanterns" said Scarlett.

Hildred liked making the lanterns becasue the fairy lights make the lanterns shine.

Theo, Scarlett, Robwati, Amiya, Hildred Lukha and Von made two God's Eyes. (They are from Mexico).

Emilia said "they are made out of wool and they get easier to do as you make them."

"The wool goes around the popsicle sticks" said Nakeisha.

Piper said "Matariki is the Mother Star.

"The Wiata star is for the salt water of the ocean" said Scott.

Wyatt said "there's a Pohutakawa star, and she is for the people who have died.

"Hiwa-e-te-Rangi is for our wishes and dreams" said Charlotte.
