Peer Mediators at Bluestone School

Darren Smith —

Year 6 students at Bluestone School are helping to ensure their younger peers in the school playground are well supported in dealing with minor conflict and disagreements through peer mediation.

During 2020 a large group of Year 6 students have undergone training with our school's peer mediation coordinator, Mr. Smith. The mediators learn conflict resolution skills to support other students deal with conflict or minor disagreements in the school playgrounds at morning interval and lunch time breaks. Students are fully trained in helping their peers solve minor problems or disagreements that can occur in a busy school playground. Students are rostered on fortnightly (one day a week) to patrol the school grounds in pairs and support teachers on duty to ensure we continue to have a happy and safe school environment.

These students are a real asset to Bluestone and use our school's six Cs of Deeper Learning (Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Character, Citizenship and Creativity) to help others resolve their minor issues in a peaceful and productive way.
