A great day on the snow and ice!

Karyn Grace —

On Tuesday the 21st of August the Think Tank headed for Tekapo and Roundhill for a day of ice skating, tubing, hot pools and skiing.

It was an early start for our Think Tank team on Tuesday, with our skiers heading off at 7.30am and  ice skaters soon after at 8.30am.

The day dawned clear and fine as our excited students headed to Tekapo and Roundhill for an outing of fun on the snow and ice.  The skiers reached Roundhill and after being kitted out with gear, navigated their skis to the learner's platter for a lesson in the sun. The rest of the day was spent enjoying the challenges of the slopes. It was great to see them test themselves and help each other to try something new.

Meanwhile at Tekapo, after getting armbands sorted, children donned helmets, ice skates and warm clothes and got on to the ice to show off their skating skills.  Although a fair bit of time was spent on bottoms on the ice, most skaters were able to spend some time upright and it was great to see their confidence grow over the day.

The tubing was also a highlight as children sped down the icy slopes spinning out of control and screams of delight could be heard across the rink as they headed towards the bottom.

After the cold fun, a soak in the hot pools was a nice way to finish off the day and thaw out fingers and toes.

The bus ride home was certainly quieter than the morning's trip and most children headed home exhausted but satisfied after a great day outdoors enjoying our Winter Wonderland experience.
