Tip 1: Screen Time - How much is too much?
Following on from our Internet Safety Evening run by Shirley from Bridging the Gap we would like to share some different tips and information from the evening.
Suggested by Dr Aric Sigman, world renowned psychologist who has advised European governments on the impact of media and screen dependency on children, as the 'time online' guidelines:
Ages 0-2 - none.
Ages 2-5 - no more than one hour a day
Ages 5-18 - no more than two hours of leisure time a day. (Not counting school / study related use.)
Many were surprised at the recommendations, especially for the younger children. This may be one of the most important decisions you make for your child and their future.
There is a huge amount of development happening in children's brains in the first 18 years of life. Of particular concern is the amount of screen time some of our babies and toddlers are receiving. The impact of screen time (as opposed to traditional baby/toddler activities) on their brain development is huge. The research is astounding!
