ANZAC- High Flyers remember.

Sharlene Heaphy —

As part of our integrated unit on Anzac, we created clay poppies.  We glazed them and fired them in our kiln, and these are the results.

We went to the museum and Malcolm Brady talked to us and showed us some of the technological advances made from the Great War 1914 - 1918.  He has an amazing collection of memorabilia from the Great War.  We wrote letters home from a soldier's or a nurse's perspective.  We made them look authentic by dying them with coffee and burning the edges.  We did lots of reading and research about the conditions in the trenches at Gallipoli and the causes of the Great War.  At our own school memorial ceremony, we had Jacob playing The First Post and we sang the song "Freedom" written by Roshean and Maddie. For the South Canterbury memorial service, we made crosses and researched the names of South Canterbury people who lost their lives in the war. We also made biscuits - using an original ANZAC recipe.
