Bluestone Students Celebrate the start to Tongan Language Week.

The Local Tongan Society visited Bluestone to share their culture with us. 

Tongan students from Bluestone school along with the local Tongan Society taught us many exciting things about their culture.  

The students enjoyed learning....

How to count in Tongan...Maggie  noticed the pattern was very similar to NZ Maori. 

I liked how their clothes in Tonga looked different to ours and that they have so many cool patterns on them - Maia 

I learnt that when it rains in Tonga it is still warm however when it rains in New Zealand it is very cold. -Will   

I notice the girls have pretty sandals that match their dresses - Lexi 

They eat lots of coconut and use coconut shells to drink out of- Kasen 

Their flag is red and white and has a cross on it which symbolises their Christian religion - Pilot

For Funerals they wear giant mats wrapped around them - Eithan 

I learnt how to say 'Thank You' in Tongan 'Mai-lo' - Isobel

I felt really proud and excited about sharing my Tongan culture even though I was a little embarrassed.  -Will 

I like that their clothes have been woven - Nathan

I noticed some of their clothes have been made out of Tapa cloth - Ethan M 

It was nice to meet some of our children's parents and aunties - Chloe

I liked the dancing - Steven did a great job - Luca

I liked the music, it had a good beat - Kyiah 

I liked learning to count to Ten - Keisha

I learnt how to say Thank You - Draiman

I liked watching the dancing, they had awesome actions - Kaiah

It was cool to learn a new language - Addison

It was really interesting learning about Tongan Culture - Piper

I felt awesome, I liked watching the dancing - Nathaniel

We ALL enjoyed our Tongan Visitors!
