Bluestone Brains in Mind Bending Quiz Event

Kate Vaughan —

How good is your flag identification? Can you name capital cities with ease, and understand the sarcasm behind political cartoons? What about naming all the faces and places that are connected with the hot topics in the world today?.....

On Wednesday 8th August four teams of year 7/8 students pitted their wits against 27 other teams from South Canterbury for the annual Newspapers in Education Social Studies Quiz, run by the ODT NEWSPAPER. This supports the NIE programme run in the Think tank and provides an enrichment opportunity for quiz savvy kids. Students did themselves proud working through ten rounds of questions ranging from Geography, Current Events, Mapping, Who’s Who, matching times in history and major events, as well as general knowledge on local, national and global contexts.

Although we didn’t place in the top 3, they all worked really hard to achieve some impressive results with scores as follows.

Bluestone 4 -9th place with 73 points

Bluestone 1 – 13th place with 69 points

Bluestone 2 - 17thplace with 69 points

Bluestone 3 – 22nd place with 56 points.

Competition was hot on the night and students worked under tight time pressure to generate accurate responses. Here are the teams .
