Ode to Librarians
Deep in the library, in a sea of pages
With wisdom to be beheld,
Librarians are clever, with precognitive power,
It’s as if late books can be smelled.
They have all the answers, like ‘when Dickens was born’
Or, ‘where Mark Twain went to school’’
They know the numbers, aren’t over encumbered
When asked about Dewey Decimal.
They’re not Harry Potter although they have magic
With any book, happy or cold,
It’s like they’re Divergent, bibliophobe insurgents,
With knowledge that can’t be controlled.
Librarians come in all shapes in sizes,
From tall and thin to quite tiny,
If you have an exam, they’ll help if they can
To study, ‘till you’re like Hermione.
If you have overdues, you’d better run
To get them returned and away.
They will not shout, or argue, or pout,
But you should give them a hug anyway.
