Room 21’s “I like but I don’t like” Poems

Phillip Barnett —

Room 21 has been busy getting to know each other during our first few days together. One activity that we did was a "I like .. but .. I don’t like" poems. It’s a great little activity that lets us get to know each other's interests.

As well as helping us learn a bit more about each other the students were also learning to make connections between two ideas and to write a compound sentence. For example I like oranges but I don’t like apples or I like rollerblades but I don’t like skateboards.

Below are a couple examples of our poems.

I like Winter

but

I don’t like freezing weather.

I like strawberry milk

I like art

I don’t like rough painting.

I like short hair

but

I don’t like long hair.
