Team Explorers Ice Skating at Lake Tekapo Thursday 21st and 28th June

Jenna Maher —

We are getting closer to our day away ice skating at Lake Tekapo and would like to update and remind you of relevant information.

WHO IS GOING WHEN?

Room 9, 10/11 - Thursday 21st June.

Rooms 7 & 8 - Thursday 28th June

WHY GO?

This trip is part of our Education Outside the Classroom programme.

HOW MUCH?

The cost for the day is $35.00 This covers the cost of the transport and skate hire.

If you are having difficulties with the cost of this trip, please see the class teacher or Miss Maher ASAP.

HOW DO I PAY?

Payment needs to be made by the day we skate. This can either be to the office or online.

Internet banking deposits can be made to: Bluestone School 03 0887 0229331 000

(Please include child's name and Ice Skate as reference)

WHAT ARE DEPARTURE AND RETURN TIMES?

We leave school promptly at 9am so the children need to be here at the normal time. We aim to leave there by 2:00pm so we should be back around 3.30pm. All children travel to and from Lake Tekapo with their own class on the bus (ie no children will travel in cars).

OF SPECIAL NOTE

We expect all children to be up and skating for the majority of the day. As outlined earlier the children will not be using the cafe so please do not send them with any money. Of course, if parent helpers want a coffee or food they are welcome to use the facilities but we would appreciate your support in not allowing the children in. Some things are adult treats and the children will cope with that! This trip should be treated as any other school day would be with the exception that it is happening outside the classroom. It is not a fun/privilege day (although hopefully, it will be fun!) but is part of our school curriculum.

WHAT TO BRING

  • GLOVES are a MUST – preferably waterproof (to keep your hands warm and protect your fingers, if you fall over your fingers/hand can get run over by another skater)

  • Bike helmet - Compulsory

  • Jacket, hat, scarf. (We are outside!)

  • Wear warm clothes, waterproof if you have them.

  • A change of dry clothes to come home in.

  • 2 or 3 pairs of warm socks.

  • Lots of lunch food and drink. (No lunch orders or canteen facilities available)

Food

Children will all be expected to bring their lunch as they normally would to school (Note: No lunch orders on this day). Students may need a little extra food for warmth. Please note there is no access to a microwave so any food needing heating will not be appropriate. Reminder students will not be allowed to purchase food from the cafe even if their parents accompany them on the trip.

CLOTHING

Please note that many children have complained of being cold in the past and it became a barrier to them being able to participate. We can experience very low temperatures in Tekapo and we cannot stress highly enough the importance of lots of layers of warm clothing. Waterproof gloves (and pants if possible) are so important as if they don’t have them once they get wet they are cold for the rest of the day. Children will not be going inside to warm up by the fire so options to layer up or down will be very helpful. (If you are having trouble sourcing these items please see your child's teacher or Miss Maher ASAP)

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

If your child suffers from car /bus sickness, please tell the class teacher so that we can seat them near the front of the bus. We will take an Epipen and the rink has a comprehensive first aid kit, however, if your child has treatment specific to them (eg inhaler or creams) please ensure they are handed in to the classroom teacher as soon as you arrive at school in the morning (the earlier the better to avoid distractions as we organise buses etc).

QUESTIONS/CONCERNS/PROBLEMS?

Please contact one of our team members straight away if you have any questions, concerns or problems relating to our trip.

Kind regards:
