STEM Wind powered car challenge
Room 12 created wind powered cars as part of our Energy unit.
We have been learning about lots of different sorts of energy. We learned about the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy. We also learned there are lots of different sources of energy. One of these is wind energy.
We had to build our wind powered cars using certain materials and to certain guidelines. The cars must roll on wheels and were not allowed to drag on the ground. They also had to have an attached wind-catching device.
The materials we were allowed to use included: kebab sticks, straws, pipe cleaners, toilet and paper towel rolls, cardboard and paper. We also used lots of hot glue!
First we planned and drew our wind powered cars. Then we built our cars and tested them. Next we modified or improved our cars.
Lastly we had a competition. Each group had to put their wind powered car in front of the fan and we measured how far each wind powered car went. Some groups were disqualified for not meeting the criteria or their vehicle was not finished in time.
We had a lot of fun creating and making our wind powered cars. We hope you enjoy watching our video!
