Autumnal Poems

Mike Boon —

Room 9 have spent the last week writing poems about autumn.

The initial idea was to follow the format of a "cinquain poem" which can take a number of forms, but for this exercise we used:

One word (a noun)
Two words (adjectives)
Three -ing words
Four words or a short phrase
Another word for the noun

This type of writing task gives the students a chance to produce a piece of quality work in quick time. As you can see, some students haven't quite followed the above format. I've left their poems as they are because they have created some beautiful poetry and it would be a shame to tell them, "You can't do that. It doesn't fit!!"

Here are the winners of "Writing of the Week" award for awesome use of the English language.

Autumn
Sometimes they are colourful
Tumbling, floating, crunching
Big pile of bright, pretty leaves crunching under my feet through cold air on my face
FUN.

Autumn
Flowing like a butterfly
Red like an apple
Crunchy, falling, becoming
Whistling, swishing

Whispering, sitting, drifting, carpeting

After the poems were completed students needed to publish them by created a poster covered with autumnal images. I have scanned in the posters so everyone can enjoy them.
