Maths Week in Te Tahi
Students in Te Tahi were involved in all sorts of interesting maths activities during Maths Week.
During Maths Week in Te Tahi, we used the picture book Hester and Lester by Kyle Mewburn for maths inspiration . We discovered the different shapes we could find in the book and then drew our own castles using some of the shapes. We found ways to measure our bodies and then make a cape to wear like the characters in the book. We used statistics to help us figure out what we think are the best ways to be a good friend. Our week ended with some parents joining us to do a maths hunt around the school. Thanks very much to those parents that joined us and also the parents that brought some old sheets and fabric in for cape making. The children loved it!
We enjoyed interactive maths games daily and solving problems from the Maths Week website. It was great to look at maths in different ways and also to use the context of the Olympics to explore maths, we especially liked comparing numbers on the medal table. We are starting to see maths all around us in Te Tahi!
