Importance of being at school on time

Ian Poulter —

When students are regularly late to school this has a negative impact on their learning.

Over the remainder of this term we are going to have a focus on all students being at school on time. When this happens the students are ready to start school at the beginning of the day and this allows the whole class to settle quickly into their learning.

When a child is late to school they may miss the daily notices and the teachers explanation of the teaching and learning to start the day. Arriving into class late means the whole class is interrupted as the teacher has to stop what they are doing and repeat instructions and expectations.

It is totally understandable if a child is late on the odd occasion but when this occurs regularly this is not fair on the child or on the class. Therefore over the next 3 weeks we will be contacting parents of those regularly late to school so that this pattern can be changed.

Our first bell (music) for the day can be heard at 8.45am. This allows students to move to class and be ready to start the day at 8.50am.

If for any reason your child is going to be absent from school we appreciate a text explaining the reason for the absence on 027 460 7149 to let us know. Alternatively you can phone school on 6843706. These notifications need to be made before 8.45am.  This saves our Office staff valuable time in the morning as every day we contact all parents whose child has an unexplained absence and when many calls need to be made this slows down the time that it may take for us to discover a child is missing. Please help us to ensure every child is safe.
