High Flyers Pod, Speech Competition

Rebecca Hamilton —

Mrs Gillian Ross and three Senior Boys High Students judged our Year 5/6 contestants. It was a challenging competition with fantastic entries. Samantha McMecking (Year 6, Room 20) won first place and will be representing Bluestone School next week at the Timaru District Lion's Speech Competition with her speech titled 'The day in the life of a fly!.'

The following students entered our pod competition and our top three place getters were:

Samantha McMecking: (R20)  ' The day in the life of a fly'

Nicole Teixeira: (R20) Why having a sibling is a good thing'

Helena Shelton: (R21) 'The day in the life of a fly'.

Other contestants were:

Molly Webb  (R19)  What my life will be like in 20 years

Olivia Bunting  (R18)   Why having a sibling is a good thing

Ruby Jackson (R19) Words of advice to my 5-year-old self

Ruby Whittaker (R21) Words of advice to my 5-year-old self

Bridget Walker-Grant (R17) Words of advice to my 5-year-old self

Elyssa Geddis (R18) Words of advice to my 5-year-old self

Naomi Brokenshire (R17) If I was a book character I would choose...

The girls who entered all did very well and we were proud of their efforts. All the students across the pod have done well with their own speeches and many have been uploading theirs to Seesaw (online learning profiles) as well. It was noted this year that all the entrants were girls but near the conclusion while the judges were making their decision we had some boys entertaining us with their speeches as well.
