Timaru Technology Education Centre

Bluestone School —

TTEC provides Technology education for 800 Year 7 & 8 students from throughout our district every week.

Bluestone School governs the Timaru Technology Education Centre on the corner of Grey Road and North Street, providing a facility and delivery of technology education that is second to none. TTEC was opened in 2007 by the then Prime Minister, Helen Clarke.

Year 7 & 8 students from 15 different schools travel by bus to the centre for two hour sessions each week. Seven staff ensure the students are given wonderful opportunities to increase their learning in the areas of the technology curriculum. While many of you will remember manual as cooking, sewing and woodwork, the children of today learn Biotechnology, Food Technology, Graphics and Design, Structures and Mechanisms, Electronics and Control, and Hard and Soft Materials. Children follow a design process allowing them to understand the varied materials they are working with and are encouraged to problem solve and find solutions through their design process.

We welcome visitors to TTEC so if you would like to see the centre in action please contact our school office to make arrangements.
