Bluestone v Cobham

After the poor weather put off our original game, Wednesday was a brilliantly sunny and warm day, perfect conditions for cricket.  The coaches introduced themselves, however no introduction was needed as I knew it was Shane Bond approaching.  Needless to say the Cobham girls were very fast and accurate bowlers.

Bluestone won the toss and decided to take the ball first.  All bowlers showing their practice and efforts in training paying off with a much improved all round bowling display.  Cobham's opening batters were very aggressive and put pressure on our fielders.  Maiana was the first to break the partnership with a caught and bowled, followed by Piper who bowled their second batsman who had scored 30 off the bat.  A run out and another wicket by Kimberlee slowed the run rate down, keeping the opposition to 97 for 5.

Coached by ex Black Cap and NZ's fastest pace bowler, we knew they were going to be a formidable bowling attack and we weren't wrong.  Bluestone had never faced this pace before and found it hard to score runs off.  However a brave batting line up showed courage and determination to chip away at the target.  Briana and Piper were the best of the batters with most contributing on the score board.  We saw out the 20 overs but were well short of the run chase, however the girls can all be very proud of themselves, I certainly am.  A team who had no cricketers at the start of the year, have come so far with their hard work and enthusiasm for the game.  I hope some will continue with cricket into their high school years.

Congratulation to Cobham, a determined, focussed and talented side.  We wish them well for the Southern Finals next week.
