To fidget or not?, Room 14 explore the debate!

Rebecca Hamilton —

Students in Room 14 have been sharing their point of view about the topical fidget spinner. The purpose of this article is to share the views of students in my room about whether or not they should be allowed at school. We have been using them in class, so watch this space for further details. But for now, here are snapshots of the student's opinions.

Jesse Coles: 11 years old, Year 6

"I think that we should be allowed fidget spinners in the classroom because we can use them for learning, kids may listen and focus better if they have them and we could have some rules for them."

Amber Yerbury: 10 years old, Year 6

"Yes, they can be great for teaching but if everyone had a fidget spinner going at the same time, it would be so distracting and some people can't concentrate with that annoying buzzing noise. At the moment my class is using them for math and I think that's great but again some people can't concentrate with that annoying background noise."

Charlotte McHaffie: 10 years old, Year 6

"They are a distraction because I personally think some of them are far too noisy for in the classroom. But also, the bearings can be pulled out and played with."

Zavier Andrews: 9 Years old, Year 5

"Some children need fidget spinners for 'adhd'. Some people say fidget spinners are out of control around the whole wide world and that is true. Fidget spinners are very distracting to most kids. But, I say,  let the kids bring them to school!"
