Sir Ray Avery and fundraising for life pods

Ian Poulter —

In 2015 students and parents raised $2000 at Bluestone to fund a new age incubator to save lives. What happened?

In 2015 we raised money to purchase a life pod that would save the lives of many children. The life pod is an incubator designed by Sir Ray Avery (Inventor and New Zealander of the Year). This incubator can be produced for a fraction of the cost of traditional incubators and can work in conditions that a normal incubator can not.

Our students and community raised this money in good faith so you can imagine when we learned that the life pods were still not manufactured and distributed we were left a little disappointed and let down. The media alerted us to this situation and we contributed to asking Sir Ray for some explanation.

I am delighted to say that Sir Ray has contacted us and offered a very humble apology, explaining how the delays have been caused by new developments, standards and requirements. As he points out better that they are distributed when they are fully fit for purpose. He promises that we will have a schedule of when the life-pods will be distributed in January of next year. While naturally we would have preferred that these were already in use we will be very happy to hear when our life pod is finally in action and saving lives.

We will keep you posted.
