Bluestone Girls Cricket Team compete in NZ Post Cricket Canterbury Regional Final for 2016
Bluestone Girls Cricket Team compete in finals.
After the rain postponement on Monday we had glorious day for the final game in the NZ Post Canterbury Regional Final for 2016 in Ashburton against Ashgrove School. Bluestone won the toss electing to bowl first. Nerves were showing but the opening bowlers Kimberlee and Briana quickly found their line and length. Opening batter for Ashgrove was a very aggressive and talented batter who was going to be a thorn in the side of the Bluestone team. With the fall of first wicket, Piper clean bowling their opener, Bluestone gained some confidence and the team lifted their game. At times outstanding fielding, putting their bodies on the line and always showing a good team spirit Bluestone managed to continue to take wickets. However Ashgrove had their secret weapon still out there and she was scoring with ease. Finally with her dismissal, bowled by Maiana and a brilliant reflex catch by Jorja, Bluestone could stop the flow of runs. The damage may have already been done, we were chasing a total of 113 to win, a challenging target but one we knew if we batted well could achieve. Unfortunately our opening batters were facing a very experienced bowling line up and again we let our nerves get the better of us, having not had much game experience. Our opening batters were dismissed for ducks and the battling collapse continued losing 4 wickets for just one run off the bat. Kimberlee showed our first signs of resistance and played some good shots scoring 8 runs. Our best batter top scoring on an unbeaten 19 was Trishanty who hit four 4's and pushed the run rate up for us. We showed determination and fight to see out the 20 overs, finishing with 72 runs for 9 wickets. Bowlers figures: Kimberlee 1/ 21, Briana 0/21, Piper 2/38, Jorja 2/24 and Maiana 1/8. Our Bluestone girls can be very proud of how much they have achieved this season and we look forward to next season. Many thanks to the parents/grandparents who supported us on the day and Artha from SC Cricket who travelled up and supported us and umpired for us.
