Room 8 loved learning about the butterfly life cycle

Nikki Geddis —

In Term 1 Room 8 learned about the life cycle of the butterfly by watching the process unfold on our class swan plants.

We started the year with some caterpillars on our swan plants. We watched them eat and eat and grow and grow until they were ready to hang in the j shape. We were then able to see them transform into a chrysalis. We then had to wait very patiently for 2 weeks until they hatched.

During the term more caterpillars were found at school or brought from home to add to our swan plants. More swan plants were bought as they ate so much! Sometimes we were lucky to see them hatch and sometimes we arrived after the weekend to a butterfly in our class! We laughed at some of our caterpillars who crawled all the way to the ceiling to make their chrysalis.

We have really enjoyed watching and learning about the life cycle. We have one last chrysalis left that we are watching and waiting to hatch. Our learning has inspired some great writing too. Please read some of the acrostic poems written by our clever Room 8 students.
