Team Explorer's Wearable Art Show was a "WOW"!

Ann Schaab —

Team Explorer have been studying Planet Earth and Beyond this term and we chose this theme for our Wearable Arts Show.

Each class selected an aspect of Planet Earth and Beyond to develop as their topic for the show. Students worked together in groups of 3 or 4 to create their show piece. One from each group was chosen to model the finished piece, and another to be the reader. However, each student contributed their ideas and helped to create their group's work of art. A huge 'thank you' to our wonderful parent helpers for their guidance and assistance. We were all so very proud of our students who made the show a resounding success. This could not have been done without our Bluestone Property Manager, Al Walker, who collated all of the music our students had selected and set up our staging and lighting. Thank you Al! We do appreciate you!

Some of our students have expressed their thoughts and feelings so well about the Show. Enjoy reading their stories.

"Yesterday we did our Wearable Arts Show and I was a reader. I was so so so embarrassed but after I was done, I was in relief and was so proud of my work. It was amazing, so amazing that I could cry, and now I love Wearable Arts"  By Maanashwi.

"When we went to the Wearable Arts Show I thought my Mum wasn't there but then I saw her. When it was my turn I had butterflies in my tummy. I couldn't stop my legs from shaking. I took a deep breath in and out and started to read. Half way through I was very scared and embarrassed, so much so I wanted to be sick. When I got back to reading I gained back my confidence so I could keep reading on. When we came off stage I thought "Great, I am off stage!" My favourite creation was the Jupiter costume."  By Jebidiah.

"Hi, I'm Elia and I was one of the models. When I was in the library waiting, I was calm. I did some stretches while Room 9 were having their turn because it helped me to get ready. Before I went on stage I felt nauseous, shaky, proud and nervous. When I went out it was like a wave of something new hitting me so hard I nearly fell over. When I stood on stage to wait for Tevita to do his bit, I smiled at all of the parents and they smiled back. It was a bit hard to walk on stage in high heels for the first time though. At the end of the cat-walk I heard someone say "She looks like a real model" and I nearly cried at that comment. After I had gone off stage I felt like I was going to burst with embarrassment. When I had taken my costume off, I went and sat down to watch the rest of the show. I can't find the word to describe how amazing the costumes looked and how well the models and readers were."

"When I was reading I felt so so scared. I had so many emotions come to me, Like people were straight up staring at me! But when I had finished I felt so happy and free for what I did. I felt so proud! When I sat down to join the audience I saw great costumes. My favourite was Thomas'. It was great! The cape really made it stand out from the rest. My second favourite was Lucas in his astronaut suit. It looked like it was something from the future." By Liam.

"I'm Sophie! I was a reader at the Wearable Art Show. It was pretty exciting doing it. Why was it exciting? I thought it was exciting because I got to talk through a microphone and lots of people were there to cheer me on. I also was a bit nervous but I knew I could do it. All of the outfits were really interesting. I was so happy after I had finished my reading." By Sophie.
