New beginnings in Room 7
What a great start to the year we have had in Room 7. It has been a new beginning for us all. It's also been a new beginning for our caterpillars too.
We have been busy getting to know each other in Room 7. We also have been getting to know our little fuzzy classmates too. We have been learning about the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. We started with some big and little caterpillars on our plants. The big caterpillars ate a lot and soon became chrysalis. The little caterpillars got bigger and bigger. They ate so much swan plant Nikki had to buy more swan plants. They ate those too! Unfortunately we lost some caterpillars when some new swan plants were unhealthy. We have had to learn that part of the life cycle is also dealing with loss.
As well as learning about the life cycle we have been learning about the 6 C's. We learned about the Treaty of Waitangi and created our own class treaty. This helps us understand citizenship. We are focusing on having a growth mindset and we brainstormed all the great things we are looking forward to this year. We have been learning that we are all different and having tolerance for those who might act, talk or look different to us. This is building character.
We collaborated on an awesome butterfly picture. We created lots of amazing creations during our team activity. We had to make or create something that could fly. We communicated about ourselves when we shared our "All about me" cubes. We have problem solved and used critical thinking during maths, using Lego and as we have got used to using the chrome books.
