Kate De Goldi visits Bluestone
At the end of term 2, Bluestone was visited by the wonderful Kate De Goldi – one of New Zealand’s internationally renowned authors.
A group of 25 very lucky Think Tank students were able to spend a couple of hours in a workshop with Kate, learning the tricks of the trade.
Students worked through several exercises such as a “Writing marathon” where they were given a sentence starter and then spent five minutes writing non-stop (it’s harder than you think!), designed to get the creative juices flowing. They also looked into how poetry could be seen as a model for their story-telling.
These exercises were designed not only to inspire creativity, but also give the students an idea of what type of writer they were – the takeaway being that everyone’s writing process is different; find what works for you and use it often!
Ngā mihi nui to Kate and to Read NZ Te Pou Muramura for this wonderful opportunity.
