Diwali (The Indian Festival of Light) Was Celebrated With Our ESoL Students
The 7th November was the first day of Diwali and we were delighted that two of our parents shared aspects of this celebration with our students.
Diwali is held in late October or early November and this year the celebrations began on the 7th November. These celebrations last for five days. Hiteshaben Patel and Jyostna Rana helped the students make a rangoli pattern which they decorated with bright coloured powder. Rangoli patterns are often put by front doors to welcome visitors. Divas (lamps) are placed around homes and are lit in the evening. Our students (plus teachers and Learning Assistants) were treated to some yummy coconut sweets which are enjoyed during the celebrations. A huge thank you to both of our mums for sharing such a special celebration with us.
Check out the photos below and note the beautiful decorative henna design on Jyostna's hand. A real work of art!
