Animalia Art
Students in Room 13 read, Animalia by Graeme Base, to inspire them to create their own drawings and alliterative sentences.
In Room 13, after reading Animalia, we were inspired to write our own alliterative sentences and create our own drawings.
First I read the students Animalia, which is a book with amazing images and sentences that use alliteration starting with each letter of the alphabet.
After that, students were to pick out a letter of the alphabet from a jar. The students were then encouraged to write as many words starting with that letter of the alphabet, including an animal/s.
Next they organised their words into an alliterative sentence using words starting with the same letter or the same sounds.
Here are some examples:
Big badgers break beautiful baskets. Lily
Kungfu Kittens knocked out Kungfu Kiwi in the Kitty Kingdom. Logan
Relaxed rainbow rabbits ridding rollercoasters, received ravishing raspberries. Maia
Rambunctious, rebellious rhinos riding rollerblades raced rapidly. Maia
After this the students created pictures to match their sentences. They were taught how to blend, using pastels on black paper.
The students were very proud of their work. Have a look at some of the examples below.
