Christchurch Music Festival 2019
On the 4th of November 2019, a group of 9 students from our school started a long week. We had the 4 performances of The Lions Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival. Back in May a bunch of Breens students went to an audition to get into the festivals representative choir, concert band and orchestra. The choir audition consisted of singing the English part of the New Zealand national anthem and some notes which took about 5 minutes. On the 16th of June we got our results, sadly some of us did not make it but the following had happy smiles on our faces when we found out. Senior Representative Choir: Sienna Hopkins, Devon Hopkins, Ian Plank, Alexander Plank, Christopher Collins, Hazel Asi and Oliviah Daikee. Orchestra: Seika Harada Concert Band: Luc Baudet Throughout the year we had a lot of practices and even a holiday course, during the term 3 holidays, in preparation for the performances in November. On the performance nights there were approximately 2500 audience members with over 15 school choirs performing each night. It was a huge sound and the orchestra and concert band sounded amazing. The Thursday and Friday performances were sold out! We were all very proud to be representing Breens Intermediate School and really enjoyed the festival. Special congratulations to Sienna Hopkins, Devon Hopkins, Ian Plank and Alexander Plank who received a medal for being in the representative groups for 4 years. By Oliviah Daikee
