Breens Challenge Update
Glentui
The Glentui Loop Track is a scenic loop located in a beautiful native forest setting. This trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, providing an immersive experience in nature. The track is suitable for all skill levels, making it accessible to both beginners and experienced hikers. It is classified as a moderate difficulty trail, providing a good balance of challenge and enjoyment. The weather conditions were tough but many children persevered and made it to the end to see a beautiful waterfall.

Colour Run
On Sunday 26 November 2023 some of the BC students completed the Colour Run event in Avondale. For the event you had to order packs with colour and your number which you had to pin across your front. It also came with four safety pins to use to put it on your shirt, then the pack also included a vista sparkling water. The one I got was Orange flavoured. You could also choose to buy extra colours otherwise you just got one for free. The run started at 10:00 am but we had to be there at 9:45 for the safety briefing.
The run was 5km which was two laps of the track. But you were allowed to do more if you wanted. At the end of the 2nd lap there was a water stand so you were able to have a quick drink before you did your next lap. After you finished the run you waited till the rest of the people finished and then there was a prize giving.
During the run there were also people throughout the track with big bottles of colour and they threw it at you as you ran past - I got some got in my eyes and mouth. Overall it was a very fun day and I really enjoyed it and I think I could say the same for the others. Hopefully next year I will participate in the run again because it was really fun. And it's a great and active way to spend a few hours.

Cave Steam - Caving and Abseilling
On the 8 December some of the Breens Challenge students travelled to Castle Hill to complete Cave Stream and did some Abseiling. We got split into three groups of 8-10 and each group did a different activity. For Cave Stream we had to wear wet suits because the water was too cold to just wear togs. Once we got to the entrance of the cave our guide gave a quick briefing and numbered us off. After the guide stopped talking he let us go in any order we wanted to. After a wee while of walking through the cave there was a waterfall we had to get up. Not everyone was able to get up so we had to lift each other up. Once we got to this open area in the cave we had to stop and talk about the different types of rock and how the cave was formed. At the very end of the cave there was a ladder and a very deep pool. It was the perfect day to do it because it was so hot!
For abseiling we had to go for a walk up the hill to get there. Once there, the instructor briefed us on safety. It was really hot in the sun, we were so lucky with a great day. Everyone had the opportunity to take on this challenge and everyone achieved it! Thanks to Andy from Adventure Specialists for leading us with this activity.
