Grandparents, Vaping, and Dangerous Fairy Tales...were just some of the topics at the Breens speech finals which saw more quality public speaking presented to our kura in 2022.
This term we have have been focusing on our speech writing and public speaking skills.
Our students were taught how to write and create quality speeches with hooks, introductions, main ideas, supporting information and conclusions. After presenting to their speech to their literacy group, students from across the teams were chosen to go through to the Breens speech finals.

The quality of the delivery was very high and the school were either persuaded, entertained or informed by each speaker about their chosen topic.
Breens was allowed to send 3 students from each age group through to the Rotary Speech Semi Finals held at Cotswold School on Thursday 29th. Students who represented Breens were:
Year 7 - Koko, Skyla, Kate
Year 8 - Oliver, Lily, Olive
We await the results from the judges at the Rotary and see if any of our student made it through to the finals which are held at Breens in early Term 4.
The Christchurch Intermediate Schools will also hold a competition in Term 4 which Breens will send two representatives to speak.
