Head Boy End of Year School Address from Nicholas Murphy
Kia Ora Koutou, My name is Nicholas Murphy and this year my role at Breens Intermediate was Head Boy.
I still remember the day that Thomas and I were told that we would become the two Head students for 2018. It was a dull day at Hagley Park and we were representing Breens in a Cricket Tournament, and after our fourth game against Medbury we were approached by Mrs Clarke. As soon as the words hit our ears we shared shocked looks on our faces and I new that this year was going to become a year to remember.
Coming to Intermediate from primary was one of the scariest things but I later learnt that change can be just what you need.If I did not change I would not have the opportunities and life that I have now and I would not be standing here today. I believe that if we all take risks and try new things our lives will be a lot more exciting and enjoyable, which is what we all should want.
One of my favourite words in life is YET. When you think you can’t do something you just say to yourself confidently, I can't do this YET. If you keep that word YET in your mind you can accomplish tasks that cannot be conquered. It is very important you stay positive and always have a growth mindset so you can go further in life and fulfill your life goals.
I have loved my time here at Breens because there are so many ways you can contribute to your school which is a perfect way meet new people your age. There are lots of clubs and sports that you could do at Breens that you can’t do at other schools ,so you can try completely new tasks or clubs that you never knew existed. If you are moving into year 8 next year, take every opportunity that comes your way because the more you contribute to Breens the better your experience at Breens will be.
My highlight of this year would have to be coming 3rd in the cricket nationals, because it was the best Breens has ever done in cricket and we all had a blast while achieving that.It was great to see a small school do so well up against the some of best schools in the country. Another highlight for me was the activities that I have participated in for the B.C because they forced me out of my comfort zone and showed me if you don’t try new things you will never know if you like it.
Breens has shown me how to be a strong leader and lead my own learning so I am very grateful for all of the support I have received from my family, friends, and teachers. I wouldn't be standing here tonight without the help of all of you who have believed I can be more than just and ordinary teen. The Breens values have also helped my Intermediate career by showing me how to be Beautiful,Brave,Brilliant and Show Belonging and Boldness. Values are very important and if you can keep showing these Breens values you will have the perfect recipe for a memorable life.
My advice for all the year 7s is to get as involved as much as you can, stay positive and have the best year you possibly can. You only have two years at Intermediate and trust me when I say this, time flies ,so make the best school years you will ever, last.
Always remember stay true to who you are, live life how you want to live it and enjoy this amazing country that you are part of.
Thank you.
