Minecraft Innovation Expo at Te Pae
Breens Intermediate students compete at the Innovation Expo against 8 other teams.
On Monday 11th of September 7 students from Breens Intermediate School attended Te Pae Convention Centre for the Innovation Expo Minecraft build.
Fin, Caleb and Hunter made up one team and Sunny, Stasha, Isla and Ana-Malia made up the other.
Over the past few weeks the students have been working with Wijl (ImpactED) to look at the UN sustainable goals. The teams then decided what they would build in an empty lot of Christchurch.
The students had 30 minutes to build, a break and then another 30 minutes to continue their build.
How were you feeling before the build?
"We were feeling very nervous. We had so much to do in so little time."
What did you have to build?
"We had to build something for the Christchurch town centre which was super sustainable. We had to build something eco-friendly, with loads of greenery all over it."
What was your favourite part of the build?
"Adding the final details to the build as we each got to put our own personal touches on it. We liked the end because we could just tour our build to see if we had missed anything, and add some minor details."
If you were to do the challenge again what would you do differently?
"We would not destroy anything we didn’t agree with. There was a problem at the end when there was a mix up with a build and someone started destroying it right at the end."
Congratulations to Sunny, Stasha, Isla and Ana-Malia who came away with the 1st place trophy for the competition.
