Little River Rail Trail trips 2019

Nikki Clarke —

On the 9th and 16th of August the girls and boys respectively took part The BC to ride the Little River Rail Trail. It was a 46 km bike from Motukarara to Little River and back.

The Little River Rail Trail was incredible, it was filled with so many amazing views and was definitely worth the 46km. In the first 8kms we biked the view was stunning but the downside was definitely the swamp flies. Lets just say they weren't on our side at all!

The rest of the biking was slightly harder due to rocks but to go on this adventure it was unbelievable! The weather for this event was amazing it was sunny which made it quite relaxing, it wasn't until the end before the wind started picking up in the opposite direction we were going!! I've got to admit this BC event was definitely a challenging one but it's not called the Breens Challenge for nothing, we all worked extremely hard and pushed ourselves outside of our comfort zone’s 100%!!

I am so Thankful I picked this BC challenge because it proves I can and everyone else can do anything if we set our minds to it and I would 100% recommend this to future students no questions asked!

The start was nice and cool outside, and the scenery was nice to look at as well biked. However then we started to bike beside the lake and millions and millions of flies and sand flies were on the track. It was a mess they kept going onto my legs and arms as well as my face, I even got a couple in my mouth.

After we got past all the flies we took our first break. We stopped at a nice picnic area that had a huge rock there as well. So lots of us went up the rock to see the view from up there and after the first break we kept biking for another hour or so. I was stuck at the back for a bit because a group of people were blocking ahead. After we finally got to the end we hung out and had lunch because our legs and butt were killing us. Just as we thought it was over, we had to go all the way back as well as having a strong wind pounding at us, but I was able to stay at the front. When we finally got back we got to have a super relaxing ride in the car back to school and then home.

Thank you to the teachers and parents who helped us out on the two days.
