Paper Crane Project 2021

Nikki Clarke —

Along with the support of NZ participants, Mazda NZ received approximately 47,000 paper cranes.  16,000 of these were contributed by Christchurch participants.

NZ’s wish as a collective was “for the world to be pandemic-free”.

Mazda Motor Corp. collected approx. 270,000 paper cranes from 7 countries and 1 region including Australia, Columbia, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Taiwan and Thailand.

The Breens Japanese Extension learning group contributed 700 & we added another 300 from a local retired couple to make our 1000 cranes.

Attached are the pictures of our cranes being placed at the memorial site.

The first donation of 36,000 cranes was made on 3 August before the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony on 6 August.
