Science at Breens
Students have been undertaking some sensational experiments in our Science Laboratory over the past weeks under the guidance of the fabulous Mrs. G
Here are some words direct from our budding Scientists.
Today in Science we learned you can bend light, block light, bounce light, mix and split light. We learned that we don’t see things, we see light bouncing off things! The weird thing about mixing light is it is different to mixing paint because all the colours off light mix to white light. If I see something green, there is no green light in it. It looks green because we see the green light that is bounced off the object while the other wavelengths are absorbed.
The experiments were fun. We don’t just hear about it, we get to do it and see it in action. Taylor and Oliver Rm22
Today in Science we learned about the 3 states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. We learned that the difference between the states is because of the different energy of the particles. We measured the temperature change every minute when we heated ice over a meths burner. It was weird that the temperature went DOWN when we first lit the burner! We also did some really fun (and a bit terrifying!) experiments with dry ice. When it sublimated (solid to a gas, missing out liquid) it caused some LOUD explosions.
Words to describe this lesson – amazing, exciting, challenging, interesting, lots of learning and ear drum blowing! Hereora 11 - Year 7
