CAIMS Winter Tournament
Courteney Currey - August 25, 2023
Netball
The Winter Tournament is a great way to have fun and participate for your school. We played eight games of netball over the two days, and we all had so much fun. We came 8th out of 24 teams which is a great effort and achievement. We also enjoyed watching the final which was Christchurch South vs Heaton. So overall we had a great time playing and having fun on and off the courts. Also, a massive thanks to Miss Currey and Miss Hoffman and all the teachers that came to support our teams, because without you guys we wouldn't have been able to go.

Volleyball
The Volleyball Team played at Hornby High over the two days. We won one game out of three on the first day and two games out of three on the second day. We finished 9th overall out of 16 teams so we were quite happy with that result. The whole team improved a lot over the two days. Thanks so much to Peng for helping us improve our skills and giving up his time to train us.

Football
On Monday and Tuesday of Week 5, a team of 12 Breens students took a bus to Hagley to participate in a two-day winter tournament. We played 6 games and won 4 out of the 6 games. On day 2 in the final game, we were playing off for 3/4 against Chisnallwood. We had some controversial decisions and lost the game finishing 4th place.
Overall we had a lot of fun and performed well. \Thank you to Ms Barratt for coaching and Miss Currey for organizing.

This term our school participated in the rugby 7s tournament for two days. We played against Cobham Intermediate, Kirkwood, Ashburton A, Heaton b, St Thomas, Ashburton B and we had a friendly game with Casebrook. We won 5 games but lost 3, however, we placed 5th overall. The team did really well and had a lot of fun at the tournament.

Hockey
On Monday and Tuesday last week the Breens mixed hockey team played at CAIMS hockey tournament. There were 2 pools that we had to compete in to get to the finals. Unfortunately, we were 3rd in our pool so we didn’t get into the semi’s but overall we did come 5th. Throughout the 2 days, the hockey team showed courage, determination, and all the values. We didn’t quit when we were losing and we showed great sportsmanship.
Even though they were our competition, we still acknowledged them for a win. Since hockey is such a social sport at least one person from our team knew someone from the opposing team. No matter what, we didn't give up and we didn’t stop running up and down the field. Overall Breens did get 5th but we all learnt something about each other and made new friends from other schools.
