CJCA Festival Cricket
On Monday and Tuesday week 7 the CJCA cricket team comprised of the Tuesday Cricket team went to a 2-day CJCA-held cricket festival. The team played 4 T20 games against various schools across canterbury. It was a long day full of action in the field and with the bat, but we kept going and won some of our games against tough opponents.
On Monday, we got to school at 8:15 and spent a good 30 minutes in our van to get to Hagley, afterwards we walked to our game which was across the entire field to get to our first match which we convincingly won. Afterwards, we had a short walk to our next field and had lunch to give us energy for our 2-hour stint in the field. We fought and we fought but sadly we were second-best against a strong team, we got back in the van which was all the way past the netball centre (where the Futsal & Netball teams played.) And we arrived back at school around 4:30.
The next day everyone got back on time and we got to Hagley, and we arrived at our next field which was the whole other end of the park from the last games we played. It had rained overnight and our field was filled to the brim with mud and wet grass. We were hoping to field first due to these conditions but we lost the toss and had to bat, we toughed it out though and got a solid total. Unfortunately when we fielded the conditions improved a lot and the batters took advantage and reached our total with overs to spare. After the match, all the teas came to the Blackcaps training session where some got signatures from Devon Conway, and Tom Latham. There was also an Indian training session straight after but we had a game and couldn’t watch, and even if you could watch they didn’t give any signatures. To close it out we played Heaton and got another good total, but they were once again a batters team and we failed to win as we got clobbered by some strong batters.
Thanks to Mr M for allowing to us do a range of competitions like this and taking the time to coach us and bring us over. Also thanks to CJCA for making a range of competitions for schools and clubs alike to participate in.
