We have an experienced team of teachers, learning assistants and specialists to provide additional support.

Breens Pastoral Team

Breens senior management, Learning Support Co-ordinator (LSC)/Counsellor, Wellbeing Lead teacher, Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB), Public Health Nurse and Mana Ake lead worker.   This team works together to help support children with additional needs, in a confidential and professional manner.

Learning Support Coordinator

Our experienced and dedicated LSC works closely with the Breens learning assistants and our local Resource Teacher in Learning (RTLB) to co-ordinate a high level of support across the curriculum.

She is also our school counsellor (in training).

Staff Mentors

At Breens we have a number of teachers who take lead roles in pastoral care, providing additional support and guidance to students.

Wellbeing Lead Teacher

We have a dedicated and experienced teacher who co-ordinates our Totara/Sparklers programme where children develop their confidence and learn more about how to interact in positive ways with others.  She also provides one on one support and counsel to students and support students and families to improve attendance.

Public Health Nurse

The Public Health Nurse works alongside our Pastoral team to provide additional support for our families as required.

Outside Agencies

Experienced staff coordinate the use of outside agencies to provide support and assistance in specific areas.

Youth Workers

Our Youth Workers from Papanui Youth Development Trust are on site regularly to connect with students, help organise fun activities and generally add to the positive family atmosphere around the school.

Mana Ake team

We work closely with the Waimairi-iri Mana Ake team who offer services and support in the area of social work, counselling and additional support for parents/families.   

ESOL support 

Our ESOL teacher is onsite to provide learning support for our international students as well as support for their families and home-stay families. For more information, see our International Students page.
