CCC Bishopdale Skate Jam What’s On link: Bishopdale Skate Jam What's On 2024

The event is held at Bishopdale Park and includes entertaining stage performances from local school groups, artists and organisations.  There will be numerous information stalls, have a go activities, arts and crafts. There is food for sale on the day and local groups will be selling their wares for fundraising.

Again this year we will be running the Bishopdale Skate Jam on the same day. So join George and his team from Skate Skool and learn how to skateboard at this energising event for the kids !

Aimed at eight to 15-year-olds but suitable for younger or older audiences or for a family to attend. Good opportunities for youth who have not skated before or have just started.  Have-a-go youth skateboard event with skate demonstrations, competitions, learn to skate with the Skate Skool team.  Free skateboard hire and prizes up for grabs.

Ōtautahi Parihaka Events 2024 -

(i) Saturday 2 Nov RĪPAPA ISLAND (12.30-2pm and 2.30-4pm): Two one-hour pilgrimage tours of Rīpapa Island with karakia and commentary by Reverend Maui Stuart. The tour will focus on the plight of Parihaka prisoners interred on Rīpapa in the early 1880s and the care and manaakitanga given them by the people of Te Wheke marae.  

Bookings go live today at Black Cat Cruises https://book.blackcat.co.nz/activity/selection?filter=ProdGroup-Special&workingDate=2024-11-02.  Each tour is for 30 people maximum ($30/adult, $20/5-15-year-olds, under-fives free), so book early to avoid disappointment. Koha will also be taken for Rev. Stuart.  

Please note, wheelchairs cannot be catered for because of steps on and off the island, however only mild-moderate fitness levels are required. What to bring: walking shoes, warm clothing and a jacket, sunscreen, water bottle, camera/phone. (Do not underestimate the weather. It can be cold and windy on the island and conditions can change rapidly.)

These tours will go ahead in sun and rain and will be cancelled only if sea conditions are rough. Cancellations will be posted on the Black Cat Cruise website and notified on NMKŌ social media (see links below).

(ii) Sunday 3 November RĀPAKI CHURCH SERVICE @ 5pm: as we did last year, a commemorative Parihaka church service will be held in te reo Māori and English at Rāpaki Church followed by a light tea served by Rāpaki Marae (koha). Reverends Maui Stuart and Eddie O’Connor will take the service. (iii) Tuesday 5 November, PARIHAKA DAY PEACE BELL SERVICE @ 10am: a commemorative service will be held at the site of the New Zealand World Peace Bell in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens – see https://maps.app.goo.gl/iui3RYEbUr6LZUcp6 \

The service will include karakia, waiata, a short talk about Parihaka, a choral item by Christ’s College choir and the ringing of the Bell. Opportunity will be given to those attending to also ring the bell. This event will take place rain or shine, and in the event of cancellation, updates will be posted on social media.

Superflex - We are excited to announce our wonderful Superflex group, these are social thinking groups aimed at helping students develop social and emotional skills.  Please see below some information about the groups, 

• Superflex is often helpful for children with social learning challenges, ADHD, autism, or anxiety.

• Identify specific social skills goals for each student, such as self-regulation, problem-solving, or understanding social cues.

• Group Size: Typically, a small group of 3-5 students works well.

• Frequency: such as weekly or bi-weekly sessions.

• Duration: Each session usually lasts between 30-60 minutes, depending on the age and attention span of the students

• Communicate regularly with parents and teachers to ensure skills learned in the group are being practiced in everyday settings.

• Share strategies and tools that can be used at home or in the classroom, such as visual reminders or behaviour charts.

Tasman Adventure Race - The MHS Adventure Racing community would like to invite you to take part in our inaugural Tasman Adventure Race which will take place on Saturday the 30th of November, starting and finishing at Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve. 

This is an event for people of all ages and stages as there are three categories (4-hour/8-hour/12-hour races) suitable for those just wanting to have a go, to the very experienced Adventure Racers. Teams can be 2, 3 or 4 people and have any gender mix.
