From our Senior Student Leaders 2023
As the Senior Student Leaders and Kaiārahi we would like to describe what the School Values have meant to us in our time here.
Kate: The value beautiful can be shown in everything you do inside and outside of the classroom. To show beauty at our school means to support and encourage others, keep our kura looking amazing and show aroha. Everyone can show beauty by being kind, polite and always supporting others.
Kaylin: Breens Students are great because they are always being up standers - standing up for others if times are tough. It's all about being a good friend and a good person. We see beautiful students look out for other students every day in our school.
That's what it means to show beauty at Breens.
Koko: Being Brave means something different to everyone. Everybody is afraid of something, whether it’s the fear of the dark, falling out of a plane or even just an upcoming algebra test. It’s not about what your fear is, it's about what you do about i because Bold and Brave students here at Breens join new clubs, and are always eager to try something new by being bold and brave by stepping out of your comfort zone.
Sammie: Always try new things and face your fears no matter how big or small they are. Because brave individuals don’t need to be pressured into their fears, they accept challenges and give everything a go. Bold is about being prepared, leading your own learning and completing the learning that is in front of you!
To us bold and brave is all about standing out from the crowd and trying new things.
Stephane: Brilliant is at the top of our Breens Tree for it is all of our values merged into one. This value encourages us to persevere and strive to be the B.E.S.T we can be.
We aim to be Better Every Single Time in whatever we do.
Joshua: Brilliant’s catch phrases are actively participate and achieve personal goals. Some examples of these at Breens include continuing to push yourself to get the best possible result and to do well in your tests and Akō work. This value helps you be the best you you can be and constantly improve yourself.
Harley: He Waka Eke Noa, what does this phrase mean? If you were in a club, team, sport team, that means you are in this team/waka together so as a example if you drop a ball in rugby don't put your teammate down he is already embarrass you just have to pick him up tell him to win the ball back or get a turn over or make that next tackle - that's how I describe He Waka Eke Noa.
Finlay: Belonging is the value that makes everyone come together. We show belonging when we have a school, team or class event. You can also show belonging by helping others out, holding doors opening for people or even just greeting someone with a smile and making their day.
The values have been the language for all of us the school that help us focus on what is really important as learners and members of the Breens Community.
