The Arts @ Breens
Here at Breens, students learn in, through and about the Arts. Within our learning programme, students develop the skills necessary to communicate ideas and demonstrate their understanding, through the outlets of dance and drama, music and visual art.
Dance, drama, mixed media art, design and music opportunities are provided for all students - with an added array of extension groups for those who have a strength or passion in this area.
As part of an authentic Arts curriculum, we stage an Arts Gala and perform a whole School Production in alternate years.
We have a specialised visual arts programme with a talented art teacher who works alongside every child to encourage them to unleash their creativity with a variety of mixed media.
Breens also takes part in the regional Jump Jam competition, Band Quest, North West and Christchurch Music Festivals, Waimaiiri-iri Cultural Festival, Tūhono Cultural Festival and local art competitions (including wearable arts).
Film-making and Radio Production has recently become an area which we also offer in our school with children involved in film-making and radio extension groups, as well as working with the PYDT Radio team and taking part in the 24 Hour Film competition.
