Breens Jump Jam Success!

Hannah Bennett —

On Saturday the 3rd of November the Breens Jump Jam team went to the Jump Jam Challenge - South Island Regional Competition, held at Christchurch Boys High School.

We had been practicing extremely hard since mid term 3. We were so excited when we found out we made it to regionals. When we were told about the competition we decided on two songs, Freaks and Bills. After some hard consideration, we went with Freaks. Our costume theme matched our song well, we were all creepy clowns and we looked amazing with our tutus and scary clown makeup. We were in the ‘Year 7-8 Novice’ category, as we had never competed in this section of the competition before. Our section time was between 11:30am-1:20pm. There were 10 other teams we were up against and one of them was performing the same song as us, so it was some tough competition. We all tried our hardest and proudly, came back with some good results.

The performance was very hard, we were all tired and sweaty and trying to make sure we remembered the moves. To score points you had to be very precise and all moves needed to be really sharp. In the end, the exhaustion we felt paid off, as we were ranked in the top 5 and came back with three awards. We were able to get ‘Excellence In Sportsmanship’, ‘Excellence In Presentation’ and ‘Merit In Costume’.

We had a lot of fun spending time together at the competition and it brought us closer together, as a team. We are all very grateful for the opportunity to go and represent Breens. We would like to thank Mrs Bennett and Miss Wilkinson for coaching us, Miss Gill for her help with our makeup on the day, our families for their support and everyone else that assisted in getting us to the regionals.
