Matariki Celebration Day 2019

On Friday the 28th of June we held a celebration day for Matariki and the end of the Aotearoa Rockstars Project.

Although the main focus of the day was bringing people together who were a part of the ARP, we made sure that the whole day had a Matariki twist. During the morning session we had certain people in from the community running workshops that were based on Hauora and/or Matariki. The whole school rotated around these workshops actively participating and having loads of fun! 


After morning tea we held a formal assembly for the ARP to share testimonials and hand out certificates to all that were involved. We were also very honoured to have Dr Angus Macfarlane join us via a zoom video to share his thoughts about why he was so happy with the outcomes of this programme. He believed that more schools needed to run initiatives like this as they are great for the revitalisation of te reo Māori. He continued by saying that he was very proud of Breens for taking that first step to becoming the tuakana for this kaupapa.


The day was finished off with a very tasty hangi that the whole school got to enjoy. One of the best ways to bring people together is kai, the kids all sat round together, eating and talking about the day that they had enjoyed. Some even said that it was the best hangi yet and that they were looking forward to next year!
