National Young Leaders Day

Ash Loper —

National Young Leaders Day was super exciting. It was super inspiring.

It was the day of National Young Leaders Day and I was quite excited! Basically National Young Leaders Day is a day when you go have some fun and connect with other student leaders from other schools.

The NYLD organisers say “Leaders are often made, not simply born. We are dedicated to sparking the leadership potential that’s inside every young person through practical, inspirational events and leadership resources. National Young Leaders Day is the largest and longest running leadership event for primary and intermediate school students. These large scale annual events aim to develop student leadership. Since 2001, more than 110,000 students have been empowered to fulfill their dreams and become great leaders at a National Young Leaders Day in New Zealand.” You can go to National Young Leaders Days New Zealand | NYLD for any further information.

At the start we got some awesome booklets so that we could jot down all that awesome information to bring back to the school and to our other student leaders. We all found it super engaging and it really inspired us to make sure we are doing our best for the benefit of the school and the students.

There where so many inspiring speakers including  Amanda Wilson, Jono Naylor, Riley Hathaway, Vince Harder and much much more. They talked about their experiences and their advice. All these experiences were all different people.

Billie's thoughts on the day, "I think that it was a really cool experience and I really enjoyed it.  I think that it was really good for young leaders to hear all of the cool things that other leaders either regretted or wished that they had done because then we could like take that advice with us in the future. I think that in my generation there will be motivated and engaged leaders. We will be Belonging, Beautiful, Bold, Brave, Brilliant. We can be leaders, why should we wait to be leaders tomorrow when we can be leaders for today?"
